I have read all of Ellsworth's books to this point, but no more. This one was idiotic, full of holes, and had an outrageously horrible ending with the murder of a teenager in a wheelchair along the way for no good reason. Spoiler alert for what follows. He used the same plot in Jane Doe 235. So not one, but two priests in his books spawn dispicable sons that kill and rape and leave the women pregnant. And in both cases their husbands are parishioners and close to the priests who discuss how they can't have an abortion, not of their grandsons! (The women aren't considered necessary to the conversations.) Also, Ellsworth even uses the same plot in both the first and second Gresham books by having his clients get acquitted then confess. How in the world does he think readers find that satisfying? Then there is the fact that the police believe two identical and bizarre murders are committed by two different people. Where is there any logic to this? Even Gresham doesn't seem to see a problem with it at the start or seize on it as a defense. But then, he isn't smart enough to get a house key back from a scary guest he throws out, even when his wife reminds him. Plus there are stupid mistakes like him saying it is mid-December and a few paragraphs later the judge is saying he must do something by December 8. Just avoid this miserable book and miserable series that starts with him getting set on fire and actually gets far worse. The fact some people give this book five stars amazes me.Product details

Michael Gresham Secrets Girls Keep (Audible Audio Edition) John Ellsworth Stephen Hoye Audible Studios Books Reviews
Good book, although not as good as the first. This story was more conventional, whereas in the first book, the main lawyer was truly unconventional and different. Not so much in this one; also, few, if any, references to his character actions from the firt book. That being said, it was still a worthwhile read, and I will continue reading the rest of the series.
Good basic story about an idealistic lawyer who blunders his way into trouble due to his own actions. He and his wife invite a murderer to live with them (what could go wrong?) And the reader hears all his naive justifications along the way. The end is strangely so pro Catholic that it makes no sense, and that's coming from a life long CatHolic! Great promise, but a Fail.
I so enjoyed the first book in the series that I eagerly purchased this, the second. What a disillusionment. Descriptions and scenes that were vulgar and unnecessarily crude - I could not read beyond the first section that ventured into cheap, leering lewdness. I was looking forward to a nicely crafted legal thriller - what happened?
Like his first book and did not like this dysfunctional book. The title has nothing to do with the story to begin my negative critique. He seemed to lose track of the story in the last quarter of the book. The recall of the first murder didn't relate to what actually happened. Thought I had opened the wrong book. Could see the end coming and thought it was an unnecessary twist. I won't read another one of this series or his books. I'm done.
(Spoiler, but it can't be helped). In the first book of this series, the protagonist was burned horribly, and the result was a disfigurement of significant proportions. But this one opens without mention of that. It's also a bit more gruesome than the first. I still enjoy the legal aspects of the book, which I can only presume are authentic. I'll give the author one more chance before I finally decide.
This was a disturbing book from the get-go!!!!!! Yucky! Live mice in mouths.?..? R really!!!! Glued shut!!!!????? A cripple, raped !!!! By teens!!!! I know it happens, but I don't want to read about it like it was written!!!!!! Each book you write seems to get worse!!!! I'm done!!!!!
This book is too sick to be believed. It has no redeeming value. It's like enjoying seeing people suffer; like rubber-neckers at a car accident where people are bleeding. There's no enjoyment in reading about a really sick psychopath and all the horrible things he does. Bad enough to know people like that exist without spending hours to learn how sick they really are. What a waste of time. Not enjoyable at all.
